Image
KERALA: GOD’S OWN COUNTRY On 1 st November I was staring at page 40 of my competent communication manual, project 8 ..Getting comfortable with visual aids…I was not able to decide as to what topic I should select…At that moment I got a call from my mom and she wished me happy Kerala Piravi.. Then I remembered the fact that The state of Kerala was created on November 1, 1956 and Malayalees around the world celebrate November 1 as “the birthday of Kerala". I thought why not speak about the state from which I belong “The Gods own country” Kerala, as there will be lot of beautiful visuals which I can show you through my visual aid…  Good afternoon toastmaster and fellow orators…today I am going to let you know certain facts about Kerala and keralaites and being a keralite what are my views on kerala and keralaites… Kerala is a state in south-west India. The National Geographic's Traveller magazine names Kerala as one of the "ten paradises of the world...

You cannot measure courage

"Strength is measured in pounds. Speed is measured in seconds, courage? You cannot measure courage."  This was the message proclaimed in the video named celebrate humanity framed by international Olympic committee after witnessing a courageous act by an athlete in the 1992 Barcelona Olympics. In 1991, Derek Redmond, Great Britain's best runner in the Men's 400 Meter event broke his own record (set in 1987) by 1/100th of a second. It was a National record that he held going into the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona, Spain. Derek's life goal was to win a Gold Medal in these games. The day came for the semi-finals in the 400 meters and Derek knew this would be the race of his life. Up against the world’s best runners, he knew that he had to do his best. When the gun sounded Derek got off to a great start. Then suddenly about 250 meters from the finish Derek heard a pop, followed by a shooting pain that ran up his leg. His tendon had just torn. His face t...

My favorite lines from"THE ALCHEMIST"

World's greatest lie- we lose control of what's happeneing to us, and our lives become controlled by our fate. People say strange things, the boy thought. Sometimes it is better to be the sheep, who dont say anything. And better still be alone with one's books. They tell their incredible stories at the 'the time when you want to hear them. But when you are talking to people they some things that are so strange that you dont know how to continue conversation. Whoever you are, or whatever it is that you do, when you really want something, it's because that desire originated in the soul of the universe. It's your mission on earth.   Sometimes it's better to leave things as they are, he thought to himself, and decided to say nothing. When each day is the same as the next, it's because people fail to recognize the good things that happen in their lives every day that the sun rises. "It's called the principle of favorability. When...

AN ENCOUNTER WITH ‘TIME’

One night, I was lying in my bed in a worse attempt to get some sleep. But I wasn’t feeling sleepy. I checked time in my wall clock; it was 11:30pm. I kept staring at the clock watching the seconds ticking, minutes counting and hours passing. Time was flowing relentlessly, it always does. My mind wandered with time. I wondered when was the beginning of time and if time would ever come to a halt. There is time for everything. We all grow in time, live in time and ultimately perish in time. Nothing escapes the clutches of time. Time goes on passing without any consideration for individuals. I was feeling annoyed with ‘Time’. I always get to hear “Don’t waste your time.” Well! How can I waste time? I feel it’s me who is being wasted by time.                         'Time and tide waits for none’, but I think with the advent of ...

HOW DO YOU KNOW WHAT YOU KNOW?????????????? (My fourth speech which I delivered in toastmasters club)

I see in front of me bright and sunny faces radiating the waves of excitement. I assume the reason behind the excitement is nothing other than the. 1 st ever Speech Evaluation Contest for the Orators Club…but are you all sure that Today is the speech evaluation contest??? HOW DO YOU KNOW?? If I ask you all in which conference room you are all sitting now….you will all answer unanimously “Gurukul”….But I ask you again…HOW DO YOU KNOW??? Ladies and gentlemen… HOW DO YOU KNOW WHAT YOU KNOW?????????????? For 5-6 seconds there was an awkward silence right…I purposely did that? Do you want to know why???I did that because only then the evaluators while evaluating can say….The speaker’s deliberate pause at the beginning made the audience ponder on the topic!!...but again HOW DO I KNOW evaluators may say that???....I mean technically how I know...let us try to understand…1 st time I attended a toastmaster’s session…I saw evaluators evaluating the speeches. The information of how th...

Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus!(My second speech which i delivered in toastmasters club)

Each one of you must have noticed that usually in colleges there are two categories of girls. One group of girls is those who socialize with boys and are comfortable in hanging out with them. The other category of girls is entirely different.. they always prefer to be in girly gang.In their girls only group they have fun to the nth degree. These girls typically have fun in fantasizing and talking animatedly about romantic heroes from novels and Hollywood movies…they have fun in sitting together and gossiping especially about the girls belonging to 1 st category..they enjoy their group studies because for them group studies means group chatting whose topics keeps on drifting from on to another….and then all of sudden they realize they had assembled there to study. they will then take a study break for 5 mins and again come back to their important discussions on their p...
